FROM THE PRESIDENT
Happy New Year Club members, I’m looking forward to seeing all of you at the January General meeting. This year we are going to learn more about the General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC) organization, of which we are a part. The GFWC is an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvements by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. The GFWC’s latest information brochure states that “Women improving communities and themselves”, our own club Motto “service and friendship” follows this GFWC direction. Each GFWC club efforts and achievements provide a clear demonstration of how a unified voice gains a national audience and recognition when it’s linked to a larger story. One example is our club donated $100.00 to Haiti earthquake disaster fund but all the GFWC clubs together donated $60,000.00 to this fund. GFWC members were recognized on the floor of the U.S. Senate as a “gem among our midst” for domestic violence awareness and prevention efforts due to our legislative and advocacy strategies. GFWC says “There is no GFWC without our members: our clubs. We cannot be a strong and unified force without you. By being a part of GFWC, your time, effort, energy, commitment, and contributions help and serve your community, and our collective efforts improve the lives of those around the world. Please wear your GFWC pin and bring your handbook to the General meetings.

Education Community Service:
Home Life Program:
This program is our means of assisting our community in various ways. We do so many things in this program that we are separating the tasks for several club members to manage. Marge Fatula has agreed to become the program chairman and board member for the home life program. Marge will concentrate on the Domestic Violence, ACTS Turning Points portion of the program and Jackie Anderson will concentrate on our program collections items. Turning Points program – Our Club has agreed to continue to provide Turning Points support from January 2012 to May. May is our last meeting before summer break. This will end our two year commitment to this program. Marge will collect monthly items for the ACTS Turning Points and Jackie will collect the regular collection items that go to ACTS.
ANNUAL SILENT AUCTION in February
We will have the annual silent auction at the February General Meeting, February 21, 2012 Tuesday. Please remember to bring some small new or gently used items for the auction. Last year’s auction was lots of fun and very successful. There were many that created some excitement in the bidding process. Come join the fun. Proceeds go toward club operating expenses. |
