December 13th our Woodbridge Woman’s Club descended upon George Washington’s property to celebrate the holiday season. It was fun had by all! In addition to enjoying togetherness and good old fashioned food, we browsed through the shops in this very historical setting.
This event was attended by over 40 members and guests. This was the largest number to attend this affair. We began with a brief meeting and induction of five new members.
WELCOME to Linda Dockery, Mary Ellen Elmore, Donella "Binkie" Gibson, Peggy Hoffman and Carolyn Keller! |

No-Sew Blankets for our Domestic Violence Program |
|
What an event! Fourteen ladies came to the Senior Center today, Friday 8 October to help make the no sew blankets to get started in our domestic violence program project. The group made 8 blankets in two and one half hours. Phyllis Zimmerman, Mary Ellen Elmore and Pat donated 3 already made blankets.

What a great time we had, cookies and water were supplied by Linda Schwartz and Binkie Gibson and Mary Ann Pohler brought a delicious pumpkin pie. The group had a great time getting to know each other better. |

Many ladies brought and donated extra material, we received some cash and we have enough material for at least 16 more blankets. We will be setting up another date to make some more blankets after the fashion show. Come and join us, Phyllis kept telling us that making the blankets is not an exact science, you will have a good time making these blankets. Any one can make no sew blankets, no experience needed. The first eleven blankets will be for offered for sale at the Northern District Fall meeting marketplace and the Belmont Bay Octoberfest. Proceeds will go toward our domestic violence project. Later in this program we hope to offer blankets directly to the domestic violence shelter. Many thanks to Binkie Gibson, Charlotte Stultz, Sharon Nash, Karen Heermans, Mary Ellen Elmore, Nancy Patterson, Alice Gardiner, Sylvia Hoffmeier, Nancy Zacharczyk, BJ Grey, Dorothy Newman, Phyllis Zimmerman, Mary Ann Pohler and Pat White. |

Our first meeting for the 2010 - 2011 year was a big success! We seem to be more and more “at home” in the Potomac Library.
In addition to our regular members, we welcomed several guests including Carolyn Keller, Peggy Hoffmann, and Binkie Gibson.
We hope they will continue to attend meetings and complete an application for membership. Our club’s theme this year focuses on actively involving each member in our programs and activities. We are delighted at the prospect of more hands, more creative thinkers, more know-how and more friends. We are stronger when we work together. We are most successful at meeting our goals when we share responsibilities.
The Woodbridge Woman’s Club ceremony for the induction of all new members who have submitted applications and attended at least two meetings, will take place at our Holiday Luncheon to be held at Mt. Vernon Monday, December 13, 2010. Included will be Mary Ellen Elmore who joined at the close of last year.
Many of us consider the highlight of this meeting to be a first hand report about our club’s history from those who lived it. Charter members, June Randolph and Frances Tyrrell were the first and second presidents of the WWC which was formed in March, 1965. Frances acted as story teller, relating interesting information about that time period, the role of women and club sponsored events. Today we are fortunate to have June and Frances remain as active club members who continue to contribute service and friendship. |
